Off the Table
July 15 - 24, 2020
CO Space Gallery, Craft Ontario
1106 Queen St W, Toronto

An exhibition of new work by ceramic artist Chiho Tokita and Marc Egan as an homage to the tradition of functional ceramics, exploring its objects as sites for contemporary interpretation.  While both of their ceramic practices emerge from an interest in pots, Marc Egan’s work examines the relationship between form and surface, the interplay of colours, textures and structure.  For Chiho Tokita, her interest lies in exploring the materiality of clay and re-interpreting functional objects as abstract forms, as sculptural ways of thinking about containment.  The exhibition is in service of the objects and forms that serve us.

Repetition Compulsion: Wood-fired

June 1 - 27, 2017
Gardiner Shop Lobby Vitrine
111 Queen's Park, Toronto, ON
The collection of wood-fired works explore the idea of repetition.  Surprisingly, the process of making something over and over again, rather than becoming an exercise in monotony, became the ground for natural variations.  In sameness, differences and subtleties begin to emerge.

ikebana abstracting: forty

March - May
Solo exhibition - Gardiner Shop Vitrine
111 Queen's Park, Toronto, ON

Merging the container with the contained, where the flower and the vase are fused together as a single entity, the work is a re-interpretation of ikebana as a sculptural collage.  These forms are amassed together to create a garden of gestures, playing with line, texture and material expressions.
